Additional Information ▼
The stamps were sold from 12 to 30 September 1902 and were valid until 30 September 1902 for pasting on letter correspondence only for the interior of Bulgaria, Russia and Serbia. 65-67 are printed with two types of photo clichés for each value, arranged randomly in the printed form with almost equal repetition. The following features are visible in the type: 5 stotinki - under the letter "ДН" with the inscription "ДЕЙНОВО" there is a small line, and the flag of the number "5" of the nominal value is curved; 10 stotinki - in the left corner of the ornament under the year "1902" (top, right of the stamp), there is a white spot; 15th stotinkaury - the line on the right outer frame, under the letter "P" of "DECEMBRII", is interrupted. In type II, the indicated defects are absent for all values, and the banner of the figure of the nominal value at 5th stotinkaury is even. From 65-67 there are also without perforation, as well as without perforation on one side, and from 66 - a pair, between which there is no perforation. The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the battles at the Shipka Pass (the Shipka Epic) was combined with the consecration of the temple-monument near the village of Shipka and took place from September 16 to 19, 1902. The series was actually conceived to mark the exploits of the Bulgarian militia during the Russo-Turkish War in 1877, and therefore the dates of the three major battles of the Bulgarian militia with the Turkish troops are marked on the stamps: at the Shipka Pass, Stara Zagora and Sheinovo. However, the painting by A. N. Popov was mistakenly chosen as the subject of the stamps, as it shows the actions of Russian soldiers at Orlovo Gnezdo, not the Bulgarian volunteers. Corrections have been made to the detail of the painting depicted on the stamp, removing some figures of participants. There are forgeries.
